Research Background

My research aims to challenge Western institutional narratives of cultural heritage to ask: what do the objects defined as cultural heritage mean to those from the societies from which they originated? I examine this question by looking at the illicit antiquities trade and temple looting in Cambodia; I study the social, religious, and cultural narratives surrounding the objects that are lost in this theft.
