We congratulate Orisanmi Burton and Maia Dedrick who have both been awarded dissertation fieldwork grants from the Wenner-Gren Foundation

Orisanmi Burton was awarded the Wenner-Gren grant for work on his dissertation research tentatively entitled  Taller than the Wall: Carceral Activism in the Empire State, 1971-Present.  This research examines how incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people draw on their experiences of imprisonment to create knowledge about prisons, race, and social justice in the United States.

Maia Dedrick was awarded the Wenner-Gren grant for work to be conducted from September 2015 – April 2016 for a proposed research project entitled Food Systems at Late Classic through Colonial Period Tahcabo, Yucatán, Mexico.  Her fieldwork will involve excavation as well as ceramic, lithic, and especially botanical analyses of residential and garden contexts.
