Diane Slocum is the recipient of both a Pre-Dissertation Summer Field Research Grant from the Institute for the Study of the Americas and a Seed Grant from the Graduate Certificate in Participatory Research. Both grants will support the collection of oral histories centered on the colonial church at Tahcabo in Yucatan, Mexico.

Sierra Roark has been awarded a fellowship to participate in the Dumbarton Oaks Plant Humanities Summer Program in Georgetown, D.C.

Parag Jyoti Saikia has been awarded the following fellowships and grants for his dissertational

research:  “When a Dam is Not a Dam: Hydropower and the Unfinished Makings of India’s Future Powerhouse”.

-SSRC Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF)

– Wenner-Gren Dissertation Fieldwork Grant

– The Mahatma Gandhi Fellowship (UNC)

Sugandh Gupta has been awarded a Graduate Dissertation Completion Fellowship for 2022-2023 for her project, “De-addiction and Dependency: A Study of Injecting Drug Users in Jammu City, Jammu and Kashmir, India.”

Christine Mikeska received a Wenner-Gren Dissertation Research Fellowship to support her faunal studies in Turkey.

Anneliese Long received a funded Biosocial Traineeship from the Carolina Population Center for Academic year 2022/2023.

Alison Nulty received a funded Biosocial Traineeships from the Carolina Population Center for next Academic year 2022/2023.

At the November 2022 Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association, Patricia A. McAnany will be presented with the A.V. Kidder Award.

Water, Food and Human Health in the Galapagos, Ecuador: “A Little World Within Itself”, edited by Amanda L. Thompson, Valeria Ochoa-Herrera, and Enrique Teran has just been published by Springer Nature.
