Further achievements by our graduate students:

Moriah James has been awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.

Anna Suk has received FLAS funding to study Hindi-Urdu during the next academic year.

Christine Mikeska received a 9-month fellowship in Istanbul at Koç University’s Research Center for Anatolian Civ to work on her project “Feeding the city, feeding the gods: Animal economies at Bronze Age Hattusa.”

Francesca Sorbara received a dissertation award from the Institute for the Study of the Americas in the amount of $2500 toward her dissertation research. Her project is entitled “Mapping a Paradise Betrayed: The Challenges of the Rights of Nature in the Colombian Amazon.” AND she received a Community Engagement fellowship from the Carolina Center for Public Service.

Sugandh Gupta has been awarded a 2021 Humanities Professional Pathways Award from the Humanities for the Public Good Initiative. Her project is entitled, “Designing an Enrollment Infographic for First-Time Substance Use Recovery Clients at the Opioid Substitution Treatment Center, Jammu, India.”

Lucía Stavig has been awarded a Humanities Professional Pathways Award for her project entitled Indigenous Women Healing from Forced Sterilization Creating Indigenous Futures in the Southern Andes of Peru. This award is given by Humanities for the Public Good at UNC.

Bryan Dougan has been accepted as a member of the 2021 class of the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society.

Incoming student Bevin Hardy has accepted and been award the Weiss Fellowship AND a Southern Futures Fellowship.
