Undergraduate achievements:

The following students will be initiated into Phi Beta Kappa this semester: Lin Cao, Amber Fulford, Charles Lumsden and Emily Reckard.

Ad Lane (vice-President of SUA) has been awarded a Burch Fellowship to support his project “BRANDING OF THE ARTISAN: Kazakhstan’s nation-branding movement through the lens of craftwork at the 2017 World Expo and Beyond.”

Jobs:

Erin Nelson has been offered the position of  Assistant Professor of Anthropology, University of South Alabama.

Vincent Joos has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Florida State University.

Sara Juengst has accepted a position of Assistant Professor of Anthropology at UNC-Charlotte (after fielding multiple offers).

Paolo Bocci has been selected as a Post-doctoral fellow in the Thompson Writing Program at Duke University.

Defenses:

Anna Kushkova has successfully defended her dissertation, “Navigating the Planned Economy: Accommodation and Survival in Moscow’s Post-War Soviet Jewish Pale.”

Faculty acheivements:

Towns Middleton has received a Cox Asia Initiative Travel Award from the Carolina Asia Center to support his research on cinchona and quinine in India.
