About Moriah
Moriah received her BA in Anthropology at the University of Maryland where she researched race and heritage and worked in archaeology labs. After graduating from UMD in 2018, she worked at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC) and the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center. At UNC, Moriah completed her MA on a previously all-Black neighborhood in northern Virginia where she collected oral histories from past and current residents. In addition to her current research on Black elites, she also contributes to an interdisciplinary digital mapping project called Mapping Black Towns.

Research Background
My doctoral research takes place in a city in the American Northeast where I explore class, race, and identity formation among African American women who belong to historically prestigious, invite-only Black social organizations.
