Greetings from UNC Anthropology!
We hope this email finds you and your family doing well during this unparalleled time. Although it is a beautiful fall in Chapel Hill, the spring, summer and now fall semester will be a time in Carolina’s history that we will not soon forget.
While campus is quiet, there is still extraordinary research and educational opportunities happening throughout the Carolina community for our students. Even though many of these experiences are now virtual, our faculty in the department of anthropology are working hard to provide unique and new learning experiences. For the first time since the establishment of anthropology as an independent department 55 years ago, we have created a new major in medical anthropology. Seated within the anthropology department, the medical anthropology major allows students to build a dossier of medically oriented anthropology courses preliminary to entering a graduate program, medical school, or a post-graduate public health program. The department also is playing a major leadership role in the new Chancellor-funded initiative called SLATE (Student Learning to Advance Truth and Equity).
On Thursday, November 12 at 4:30 pm EST, we invite you to learn more about these exciting updates in the department. During this virtual event, you will have the chance to hear from our Senior Associate Dean Rudi Colloredo-Mansfeld ’87, who is also a former chair of the department, meet a few of the incredible faculty leading these new initiatives and reconnect with fellow anthropology alumni. Please click here to RSVP and submit questions that you would like to discuss during the virtual event.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. We appreciate your support of Carolina Anthropology and hope that you can join us on November 12. If you are unable to do so, please consider making a gift to help continue advancing the work of our faculty and students in the department of anthropology.
