August 28, 2024 The Medical Anthropology program has been updated and new requirements are reflecting in the UNC catalog. However, only incoming, newly declared Medical Anthropology students are going to be automatically enrolled into this new program/requirements.
For returning students who declared their major prior to July 2024, you will stay in the “old” program requirements and you can reference a helpful catalog here – the current catalog will NOT reflect your degree requirements. Please reference your Tar Heel Tracker to know what classes will count for what.
If you are interested in changing over to the new program requirements, you can do so by meeting with your academic advisor. Be sure to thoroughly talk through the options with them – for some of you, it will hurt more than it helps. Switching back is very complicated and additional THT adjustments will take weeks or months. If you have already completed at least one Research Methods class or are enrolled in one this semester, the DUS recommends you do not change over to the new program. It might not benefit you. If you had a class adjusted via a Tar Heel Tracker adjustment by our DUS, that adjustment will be void if you go into the new program.
