Checklist for Majors

For students enrolling at UNC prior to Fall 2012, have you:

  • Taken ANTH 297?
  • Taken one 3-hour course in the Evolution and Ecology Concentration?
  • Taken one 3-hour course in the Meaning Concentration?
  • Taken 3-hour course in the Social Systems Concentration?
  • Taken at least 15 credit-hours in other Anthropology Courses, of which:
    • no more than three courses are numbered below 200?
    • no more than 9 credit-hours are field-oriented courses (ANTH 393, 395, 451, 453)?
  • Earned minimum grade of C (2.0) or better in at least six of the nine courses required for the major?
  • Completed your required Perspectives courses in the General College and College of Arts and Sciences?
  • Completed all other requirements for the B.A. degree set by the College of Arts and Sciences and by the University?

 

Please note these additional requirements:

  • For transfer students, at least half of the course work in the major must be completed at UNC–Chapel Hill.
  • Anthropology majors must complete all General Education requirements.
  • The department recommends that majors enroll in some field-oriented course work such as 393 Internship in Anthropology, 395 Independent Fieldwork, 451 Field School in North American Archaeology, 453 Field School in South American Archaeology, or in study abroad course work.

 

For students enrolling at UNC in Fall 2012 or later, have you:

  • Taken one of the following biological anthropology courses: ANTH 143, 148, 315, or 319?
  • Taken one of the following archaeology courses: ANTH 121, 145, 220, 222, 231, 232, 250, or 454?
  • Taken one of the following sociocultural anthropology courses: ANTH 102, 120, 147, 240, 280, or 284?
  • Taken one of the following theoretical perspectives courses in your junior year: ANTH 293, 294 297, or 298?
  • Taken ANTH 490?
  • Taken four additional three-hour courses (12 hours) in anthropology?

 

Please note these additional requirements:

  • No more than three courses numbered below 200 can be used to fulfill the major.
  • No more than six hours of field-oriented course work (ANTH 393, 395, 451, or 453) can be counted toward the major.
  • No more than three hours of course work from the following list may be counted toward the major: ANTH 92, 93, 195, 196, 295, 296, 396, 691H, 692H.
  • Of the nine courses required for the major, students must complete six with a minimum grade of C or better.
  • For transfer students, at least half of the course work in the major must be completed at UNC–Chapel Hill.
  • Anthropology majors must complete all General Education requirements.
