Research Interests: I am primarily interested in the origins and formations of pastoral societies in Central Asia, as well as the transmission of material culture in antiquity, in particular, Mediterranean commerce. In connection with this I am also concerned with the sphere of influence between Eurasian Nomads of the Iron Age and sedentary cultures of the Mediterranean, especially in regards to trade. More recently I have extended the scope of my research to include Mongolia and China, and the interrelations between Iron Age nomads and sedentary societies throughout Eurasia and Central Asia.
