Research & Activities:
Entered the program in 1999.
Education:
MA Social and Cognitive Psychology, University of Groningen (The Netherlands) 1996;
MA Anthropology, UNC-Chapel Hill, 2000.
Research Interests: My research interests focus on the landscape, and include historical ecology, complexity theory, population dynamics, risk perception, and political ecology. My current research focuses on eastern North Carolina, in particular areas sensitive to hurricane flooding. I am focusing on how risk perceptions and causal explanations for disasters (such as Hurricane Floyd and Fran) are influenced and changed by environmental monitoring practices. I also have a research interest in eastern African pastoralism, in particular Nginsonyoka Turkana herd demography (as part of my traineeship with the Carolina Population Center) and Burgundian historical climatology (as part of the French Project).
